Well-preserved early land plant fossils recently discovered in late Silurian/early Devonian deposits in South Wales and the Welsh Borderland provide new information on anatomy and palaeobiology when studied under high magnification. The specimens are extremely fragile, must be partially fragmented for study, and deteriorate in storage, all of which threaten loss of the material for further study. This note describes the rigorous database set up to record descriptions, quantitative information, and images to save information in accessible form as much as possible. Scanning electron microscope images, for example, are transferred directly to an optical disc for incorporation into the computerized database.
