The Cooperative Preventive Conservation Project for Libraries and Archives dealt with the development of a nationwide preventive conservation dissemination and training program. The first objective was to introduce the subject to institutions possessing documentary, graphic or bibliographic materials, in order to guarantee long-term use of and access to their information. The second objective was to promote cooperative actions and interinstitutional coordination, as a means to develop preventive conservation programs. The project, which extended from 1999 to 2001, was coordinated by the National Conservation and Restoration Center (CNCR). Advisory services were provided by the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR), while funding was received from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
