This paper contains the results of the conservation studies conducted in the Punta Ñagué archaeological site along the 1996-2001 period. In addition, it describes the handling strategies used during excavation aimed at reducing the impact caused by the work team. The macrospatial environmental factors that bring about the transformation processes are thus reviewed. The study object is characterized at spatial and stratigraphic levels, and the major site alteration agents and processes are identified. Finally, regarding the preservation conditions recorded by the archaeological date, certain mitigation measures are proposed in order to decrease the influence of alteration agents.
