Presents new evidence for the importance of metallurgy in the Cyclades during the Early Bronze Age and illustrates the extent to which trade and commerce, stimulated by the new technology, brought about an international spirit, new to the Aegean, with in its wake the first urban societies of Europe. The Cycladic culture sequence is set in its Aegean context. Examines the evidence for various aspects of cycladic metallurgy -- the importance of lead and silver as well as copper, the tomb finds of Amorgos and other islands, the Kythnos hoard which documents the importance of tools as well as the weapons and luxury goods of other finds, and the daggers and spearheads from Amorgos.
