Dr. Charles Cruikshank, one of the researchers of the Pasold Research Fund, founded by the author, has recently discovered, among the papers of Lord de L'Isle, an indenture made between William Lee and George Brooke, dated 6 June 1600, which is the earliest authentic record of Lee and his invention of the stocking frame. The text of the document is reproduced in full, and seems to confirm that there was no intermediate instrument between hand knitting needles and Lee's frame. -- AATA
