Abstract
The process described involves two more steps than the ordinary deep-etch process, since it is necessary to convert the positive print on metal to a negative stencil of etching resist. The plate-making is therefore somewhat more expensive than in the conventional deep-etch process using positives. To be of practical value this additional cost must be offset by a saving in the photographic and photo-composing operations. Whether or not the making of deep-etched plates directly from negatives offers economic or other advantages in production will depend on the character of work to be done, and must be determined under shop conditions. However, with good unstained negatives this process offers a distinct improvement over albumin plates in both quality and plate life.
