Abstract
Cellulose may be hydrolyzed enzymically under mild conditions of temperature and pH. Cellulolytic enzymes hydrolyze only the beta-D glucosidic bonds. Enzymic hydrolysis, therefore, offers marked advantages over chemical degradation whenever it is desired to hydrolyze cellulose leaving other components of they system unaltered.
