Abstract
K, Ca, Rb and Sr contents in granitic rocks and volcanic ashes in Hokkaido and Tohoku districts were determined by energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer. Calculations were made by a small computer to get Mahalanobis' generalized distances from both Tsuruga (in central Japan) and Hasigami (in northern Japan) groups. It was found that these granitic rocks and volcanic ashes were similar with Hashigami group in K, Ca, Rb and Sr contents (eastern Japan type). On the other hand, Hakutosan volcanic ash (in Korean peninsula) was also shown to have the similar feature with Tsuruga group (western Japan type). Volcanic ashes like Hakutosan have not been found in Japan. Both Tsuruga and Hashigami granitic rocks has the origin at the Mesozoic magma, while the many volcanic ashes in Japan were produced from the magma in the Cezoic era. Thus, the obtained data in this paper suggest that the Cezoic magma has the different feature from the Mesozoic magma in the deep underground of Japan Islands. On the basement of these data, it can be concluded that the upper volcanic ash piled up in Hattsuchazawa site (in Heian period) is Hakutosan ash and the lower is Towada a ash.
