Abstract
The mechanical properties and character of the destruction of archaeo logical iron samples dated to the 1st millennium B.C. have been studied. The ancient metal has been found to possess low resistance and plastic properties compared with modern metal of the same type. Low mechanical indices of the investigated iron are due to irregular distribution of carbon and to a large amount of slag inclusions. -- AATA
