Methylene chloride is a pleasant-smelling, colorless liquid found in many paint and adhesive removers, plastic solvents, aerosol spray products, etc. It should be handled with extreme care as it has potentially fatal narcotic effects; in high concentrations it can cause heart arrhythmias; it is a suspected carcinogen and potential source of reproductive damage in humans. Adequate ventilation is essential and respirators should be worn. Polyvinyl alcohol gloves should be used when working with large amounts of methylene chloride.
