Abstract
Pilot investigation was performed on an adaptation of the vapor phase for stain removal from historical iron objects. By comparing the qualitative effects of the chemical method which depends on the application of an active substance (static bath, application of water vapor as a carrier of active stain removing substances), it was concluded that the use of vapor permits an increase in the process intensity. The use of vapor provides an improvement of other kinds of treatment performed after stain removal on the object's surface, such as: neutralization, passivation, and stabilization of metal. Metal cleaning by vapor permits a decrease in the concentration of the applied chemical substances, which makes the treatment less dangerous for the object. This reports on the first stage of experiments performed by means of a typical laboratory set, where the usefulness of the method of stain removal was evaluated.
