Researches on the polymerization of methyl methacrylate in the structure of treated stone have been carried out using Pinczow limestone as material and solutions of monomer in a mixture of propanol with toluene and water as consolidants. The results showed a limited polymerization capacity of a monomer solution in the stone structure under treatment. Polymerization is attenuated by oxygen inhibition and inhibition due to absorption of the heat of reaction. Polymerization of a solution in the structure of treated stone may be effective only in the case of impregnation under vacuum.
