The author advances the hypothesis that ultraviolet fluorescence of old paintings influences the color and causes it to change in daylight as compared to incandescent light. This causes changes in the aspect of certain retouches in incandescent and daylight. The author further mentions that this type of color change can be avoided by the use of fluorescent pigments. Such pigments have been used lately in order to prevent detection of damages through ultraviolet light.
