Emergency conservation procedures used at the Jefferson Davis Memorial Shrine, Biloxi, Mississippi, are presented. Under the direction of members of the Conservation-Analytical Laboratory of the Smithsonian Institution, a relatively small team of persons was able to clean four costumes and to wash and stabilize over 800 documents. Most of the damages encountered were due to the effects of sea-water, silt and moulds. Conservation techniques are described in some detail, and a list of materials taken to Biloxi is included.
