Abstract
A simple method of detecting silver, zinc, copper, tin and iron is described. A glass applicator moistened with nitric acid is briefly held in contact with the metal surface to be analyzed; tests for the specific cations present are then carried out on the droplet of solution remaining at the applicator tip. The identification of silver is based on the insolubility of silver chloride. Other metals are identified by their reactions with potassium mercury thiocyanate
