Pottery from the Middle and Late Bronze Age site of Ayios Stephanos in the South Peloponnese was analyzed by optical emission spectroscopy to examine the question of whether certain fine wares closely resembling Minoan painted wares of the Middle Minoan III period were locally made or imported from Crete or the Minoan colony on the island of Kythera. On the basis of composition, the provenance of typical Mainland wares found at Ayios Stephanos, including Dark Minyan, was also investigated.
