Abstract
Alkaline earth metal concentrations of bone samples from both recent and archaeological specimens demonstrate significant differences between marine and terrestrial mammals. Concentrations of calcium, strontium and barium were measured. To date, strontium has shown only moderatevariation whereas barium levels often differ dramatically. Artifacts from archaeological sites exhibit similar differences suggesting usefulness of this technique as a non-destructive method for determining the origin of materials used for the manufacture of hunting implements.
