The à la prima technique in modern art, wiping techniques, use of nearly non-absorbent materials, etc., makes X-rays of these paintings or objects of art seem unpromising at first. Only with the aid of the transiscope and its many possibilities for variation in interpreting, enlarging, contrasting and reversing can insight be gained that would normally not be given: for example, the possibility of exact identification of the jute fibers used by the Expressionists; the cloudy, glazed-like manner of painting of some Surrealists and the hardly definable supports used in modern art. Here the transiscope yields contrasts and sensitization with its variation program that would otherwise not be achieved. Generally all structures of materials become more marked, defects, flaws or other deviations from the surrounding area, such as irregularities in the adhesion of the paint to the canvas, the manner the primer was distributed can be located and distinguished also signatures or fragments of signatures can be made clearer.
