Abstract
The altar dates back to the 14th century and consists of 12 painted panels. The predella and the wings were restored in 1977-78. The pictures have been repainted several times; there were also traces of a number of amateur restorations. The chalk base became separated from the wood support. In some pictures 25% of the paint layer was missing. For completion of the support a mixture of beeswax resin and chalk was used. Mark-retouch and vertical hatching were applied, by smaller lacunae hachure retouch. See also 16-194. -- AATA
