Abstract
The very deteriorated object is in the Esztergom Christian Museum. Survey and reconstruction began in 1970. The object dates back to the 15th century. It was thoroughly restored in 1872 in Vienna. During this time it also was strengthened structurally. Amateur restoration followed in 1954. In 1970, most of the earlier completions were removed. Older gold coatings could be recovered to a great extent. The completion of the surfaces was keyed to the figures having the most intact gilding. Water color cross hatching was used with shell gold cross hatching. The reliefs were cleaned but not completed fully. The work is still in progress. -- AATA
