Abstract
Describes the basic principles, aims and results of restoration. The church of Cserhátsurány, where the altar in question stands, was built in the 14th century, rebuilt in Baroque times and in 1934, and renovated in 1972-74. The carved wooden altar was constructed in 1689. The wood is strongly tainted and damaged by wood worms. The author already completed the restoration of one of the seven statues. The St. Imre statue is 102 cm.; some parts and a hand were missing. The wood was saturated after cleaning with Paraloid B72 and pentha-chlorine phenol in toluol. Restorations were made in lime-tree; all missing parts were restored. Veginol was used as adhesive. The stuffing was made of Veginol and wood flour. See also 16-194. -- AATA
