Abstract
Discusses possible aesthetic dangers of restoration. Individual decisions must be made, based on the history of the object and the actual damage. This principle is illustrated on the Feldberger Altar, 1520, now in Berlin, water damaged during WW II, and <i>Portrait of a Bishop, 1804, by Johann Nepomuk della Croce, which was painted on top of an older painting.
