Abstract
This book is in two parts, the first dealing with adhesion science and the second with adhesives. In the former, the nature of adhesives forces, the functions of adhesives, and the properties of surfaces and interfaces are considered. The mechanical, diffusion, electrostatic and adsorption theories of adhesion are compared and rheological aspects and modes of failure discussed. The second part describes the materials used in adhesive formulations and the nature and uses of the common types of adhesive. The high quality of the work is what would be expected from the reputation of the author and it is likely to become a standard textbook in the field. It may be pointed out, however, that adhesion of paint films and methods of testing adhesion are not covered to any extent, so that those solely interested in these fields will find the work only of indirect value. -- AATA
