Abstract
Shell fishhooks were made on the central Peruvian coast between about 2500 and 1800 B.C. from the shell of a large mussel <i>Choromytilus chorus. The steps in production of the hooks, various forms of grinding, cutting, and drilling, were deduced from large numbers of broken fragments found in excavation. -- AATA
