Abstract
Quant. analysis for Pb in 77 bone samples from the Romano-British cemetery at Trentholme Drive, York, England, by atomic absorption shows levels somewhat higher (mean 63.5 ppm dry weight) than those in contemporary bones (highest reported mean 41.8 ppm dry weight). This is not sufficient to have produced endemic lead poisoning in the population and counters Gilfillan's hypothesis that this disease is responsible for the fall of the Roman empire. -- AATA
