Ultraviolet oxidation is an effective and practical route for the complete decomposition of even the most complex organic substances in water. The apparatus described in the article (Barnstead Company) produces 2.0 liters of organic-free water per 30 minute process cycle when fed appropriately prepared reagent-grade water. Organic-free water and its applications and importance in reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography and total organic carbon measurement are examples. -- AATA
