Abstract
The internal stress in filled latex coatings was studied. The formulations consisted of single filler systems (one binder/one filler) and mixtures of fillers. The experimental results show that the development of internal stress depends on pigmentation (pigment volume concentration and type of filler). Mathematical relationships were established to predict approximately the internal stress and the critical pigment volume concentration for paints containing a mixture of fillers.
