Abstract
After ashing bone at 600°C and digestion in concentrated hydrochloric acid, samples are made up to volume. Zinc analysis is determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy in an air-hydrogen flame against standard solutions of zinc sulfate in 0.3M of hydrochloric acid. Strontium is determined in an air-acetylene flame against standards (e.g., 0.30 grams SrC1<sub>2</sub>. H<sub>2</sub>O, 1. 25 grams Ca<sub>3</sub>(PO<sub>4</sub>)<sub>2</sub>, 50.00 grams La(NO<sub>3</sub>)<sub>3</sub>. 6H<sub>2</sub>O in 250 milliliters 0.30M of hy drochloric acid. The strontium must be 20 percent (w/w) in La(NO<sub>3</sub>)<sub>3</sub> to minimize the formation of the refractory strontium phosphate complex. Final results are given as parts per million (w/w) concentration of the dry, ashed samples. Multiple analysis of a single sample typically produced a relative standard deviation of 2-3 percent. -- AATA
