A thorough investigation of the uses of rawhide, especially from bison, by North American Indians emphasizes the production of folded, rectangular rawhide containers here called parfleche. Indian craftswomen of many tribes were interviewed to record the various methods of preparing the skin, painting the design, and forming the object. Many technical details are described. -- AATA
