Abstract
Carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance analysis of Oligocene amber from the Dominican Republic, Oligo-Miocene amber from Mexico, and trunk resins from extant species of Hymenaea suggests they all have a polylabdane structure and gives an insight into the structural changes during aging. A close relation between Dominican amber and H. verrucosa is suggested from infrared spectra and paleobotanical data. The Mexican amber differs from these polymers and also from the H. courbaril polymer. See also 22-980 for another study of amber from the Dominican Republic. -- AATA
