Presented is an overview of the history of the art of braiding in the Japanese culture. Described are the lantern-shaped and loomlike wooden handtool called Maru-Dai and Taka-Dai, which are used to create the braid, and the rhythmic body swinging of the worker that adds to the harmonious art form of the work. -- AATA
