Abstract
A computerized image analysis has been done of 1931 photographs of the shroud; an analyzer enlarged the eye sections of the image to produce high-contrast, three-dimensional digitized photos, washing out the weave of the cloth without destroying the pattern of what might be identified as coins over the eyes. In 1975 an image analyzer determined a three-dimensional relationship of varying light intensities, which paintings or photographs would not indicate. Circles were found over the eyes at that time; current research attempts to identify circles as coins from first century Judaea. -- AATA
