Abstract
The authors enumerate various kinds of damages to sculpture, based on their experience at the Grabar Conservation Centre (Moscow): defects in the original workmanship; damages due to improper handling, transport or exhibition; weaknesses due to repeated restorations; etc. Several examples are illustrated. The importance of documentation in predicting and preventing damage is emphasized.
