Abstract
Pre-excavation planning for conservation is urged of archaeologists, particularly in preparation of budget and hiring of staff; curators also are urged to plan for conservation of collections. Cites a shortage of archaeological conservators and a lack of adequate training programs for them in the U.S. Suggests that an archaeological site not be excavated unless there are provisions for conservation of artifacts. -- AATA
