Abstract
Offers a brief history of the abbey, founded by Jean III, bishop of Sisteron, in the 10th century; discusses the mosaic pavement of the church, both of which were restored from 1957-1975. Describes the ornamental motifs and animals that appear throughout the mosaic in decorative modes, gives compositional and stylistic analyses, and dates the mosaic from 1135-1173. An addendum by Claude Bassier discusses the restoration and conservation of the pavement.
