Abstract
Certain fundamental steps should be taken by the conservator in private practice and the small conservation workshop to ensure that the operations are on a legally sound basis. The objective of any work undertaken as well as the proposed treatment and its possible outcome should be understood by both the conservator and the object's owner and appropriate documentation signed. Conservators also should be fully cognizant of the implications of negligence and of worker's compensation laws. -- AATA
