Abstract
Thermoluminescence of minerals extracted from samples from archaeological objects is used to date the objects. Energy has been transferred to a crystal lattice, usually quartz, by ionizing radiation stored there because there are trapping centers or defects in the lattice. With continued exposure to radiation, energy is accumulated; subsequent heating frees this stored energy by thermal excitation, a small portion of which is seen as light. -- AATA
