Abstract
Corrosion dangers to the steel parts of muzzleloaders which carry brass thimbles for ramrods are described. Since hot water is the most usual solvent for cleaning black powder weapons, it sets up an ideal circumstance for active galvanic corrosion of the steel. Removal of dissimilar metals during cleaning is suggested as the most reliable action. After drying, a little high quality grease is suggested for application to the parts as the brass parts are remounted. -- AATA
