Abstract
Molding on furniture has been known for quite some time. Waved and flame moldings are a special type of such molding. They were invented at the beginning of the 17th century in Southern Germany and quickly spread over all of Central Europe. They belong to the most important ornaments of the early Baroque period. This article presents the various forms of these profiles and tries to explain the different traditional principles of production and outline the development of the independent wave molding devices from their beginning as a flaming bench. A wave molding device from the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum in Munich is shown for the first time.
