Abstract
In response to a question concerning improving resin-coated (RC) photo paper images' longevity by toning the black and white image, the magazine agrees that selenium-toned images resist chemicals and oxidation better than untoned images but they are not impervious. For example, the titanium white layer in RC paper generates a high-energy form of oxygen when exposed to light. If an RC print is sealed under glass, the gas concentration could build up to a point where it will attack even a toned image. It is pointed out that while toning improves stability of the photo image it does not change the non-archival quality of the RC base. -- AATA
