Abstract
Patterns of plant food uses in the past can be determined from pollen remains, coprolites, and soil analyses using flotation. Current farming practices of some Amerindian groups shed light upon historic land use practices. Specific native southwestern plants are discussed: mesquite, cacti, pinyon pine, agave, chenopod, amaranth, and purslane. -- AATA
