Abstract
This paper presents an ongoing project in Bangladesh and the implementation of a preservation plan for one of the country’s national art institutions, The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Dhaka. The project has been designed by The Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage Research (NIKU) with the aim of helping to improve art conservation expertise in Bangladesh. It consisted of two workshops introducing the basic concepts of art conservation, advice and support for the setting up of a conservation studio, and the organisation of the academic training for four Bangladeshi students abroad. Two students graduated from the Conservation of Fine Art course at Northumbria University in 2006 and two from the Masters Course at the National Museum Institute in Janpath, New Delhi in 2007. The project was initiated and implemented by the Bangladeshi authorities with financial support from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD).
