Abstract
Outlines the present condition of and future plans for a maritime museum on the island of Texel, with details on the securing and treatment of a cannon, found in a nearby shipwreck, originating from Enkhuizen in 1638. The treatment of the cannon involved cleaning of the inside and outside and removal of a cannonball and the remainder of the gunpowder. After treatment with a reducing preparation (translated as Derust ), the surface showed damage and irregularities because of oxidized iron reinforcements in the bronze. This contribution is a plea for leaving the cannon in the Texel Museum.
