Abstract
Light dosimeters are described. Because they respond in a well-defined way to the action of light they can be used to measure the total illumination at any display site over a period of a few weeks to a year or more. They complement spot readings of illuminance made with light and uv meters. The dosimeters consist of a set of two dyed blue wool monitors for visible light and a clear plastic film for uv light. After exposure the total illumination may be assessed quantitatively by instrumental inspection or qualitatively by visual inspection. Their use as part of lighting survey in a museum illuminated by daylight is described. 6 references.
