Abstract
Results of studies on the optimization of the use of optical whiteners demonstrate that partialreplacement of alum by sulfuric acid results in the improvement of the optical properties of paper -- brightness and yellowness -- and helps in minimizing the dosage of more expensive optical whiteners. The extent to which this replacement can be done without affecting the other properties of paper is also discussed. -- AATA
