Following a brief history of adhesive tapes, an examination is made of different types and supports: i.e. paper, fabric, cellulose, plastics films (poly(vinyl chloride) and cellulose acetate), and reinforced and double-sided support materials, etc. The structure of the French industry is considered, and some companies involved in adhesive tape manufacture are mentioned. Standards are surveyed, and some production statistics given for 1975-1980. -- AATA
