Abstract
In preparation for the establishment of a paper conservation laboratory at the Provincial Archives of Manitoba, the Chief Conservator undertook a study-tour of a dozen museums, galleries, vacuum chambers, and conservation laboratories in the Philadelphia and Washington area (USA). He visited existing conservation laboratories to study the facilities for fumigating paper artifacts and for drying in emergency situations; to discuss deacidification procedures, and the care and preservation of brittle paper; to observe methods of storage; and to examine climate controls. Specific features and services of each facility are described. -- AATA
