Described are techniques developed for the San Francisco architectural survey, completed under the auspices of the National Endowment for the Arts. A city block can be surveyed in ten to twenty minutes. Notations are made of good restorations and misguided improvements. Such a catalogue of a community's architectural heritage is important in neighborhood preservation and should be archived in a public library to provide information for historical research. -- AATA
