The article deals with the questions concerning the determination of the optimal axis position of blocks for the peeling process. The optimal axis is determined as the axis of the maximum right circular cylinder inscribed into the set of points measured on the blocks. For the determination of the maximum cylinder the methods based on the nonlinear programming and on our own searching method as well have been applied. The individual procedures have been verified on the set of data measured in a real process on 30 blocks. The gained results are compared with regard to the maximum radius of the inscribed cylinder and with regard to the time required for the calculation.
