Abstract
For sheathed wooden stud-walls serving for stiffening of wood-constructions a design procedure is presented. If needed, the inplane bending-moment is distributed according to the shearbending rigidity (racking resistance) of the single walls. For the connectors of the sheathing (nails etc. ) a simple designing-formula is derived. It is possible to compute the stresses in the sheathing-material according to the simple beam-theory assuming a continuously joined composite cross-section with elastically displaceable connectors. The forces in the studs of the wall however are computed on the basis of tests conducted. As it is seen, the wall-length and the connector-spacing in the first compression-stud enter in the derived formula for the maximum stud-force. Computing the deformation of the wall-head it is necessary to take into account the influence of shearforce. Finally, when using in skeleton-constructions sheathed studwalls are represented by elastic springs, for which characteristic values for the static computation are derived.
